The Escarpment and Conservation Halton constrain the west side
Milton sits against the Niagara Escarpment. Properties on the west side may fall under Niagara Escarpment Commission or Conservation Halton jurisdiction, which adds approvals on top of the Town permit and can restrict what you are allowed to build at all. This is worth confirming before you design anything.
Newer homes make basements cheaper here than in Toronto
A Milton basement almost never needs underpinning. Ceiling heights are already there. The budget goes into egress, fire separation, mechanical and finishes instead of structure, which is why the same square footage costs considerably less than it would in the old city.
